With the new Special Instructions feature, you can fine-tune your chatbot's personality to reflect your brand’s tone, values, and style. Whether you want it to sound like an energetic outdoor guide or a polished concierge, you’re in control of how your chatbot shows up for your customers.


 

What Are Special Instructions?

Special Instructions are a behind-the-scenes system prompt that helps shape how your chatbot communicates. They guide the AI to reflect your brand’s:

  • Tone of voice – how the message feels

  • Persona – who the bot sounds like

  • Structure and style – how replies are written

  • Response behaviour – how proactive, detailed, or casual the bot is

Special Instructions act as a tone layer over your existing content. Around 99% of your dynamic responses will be rephrased - the information stays the same, but the way it’s delivered will reflect your chosen tone and style. Fixed responses will remain unchanged.


 

How to Add Special Instructions to Your Chatbot

To add personality and tone to your chatbot, email support@yonderhq.com with one or both of the following:

  • Your brand or tone of voice guidelines
  • A short description of how you'd like the chatbot to sound

The Yonder team will then create a special instructions prompt to add to your live chatbot, or a testing chatbot for you to experiment freely with and provide adjustment feedback.

Once added, you will see your special instructions prompt in  ChatBot > Website Widget > Special Instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Special Instructions apply to all responses?
They only apply to dynamic responses (AI-generated). Any fixed responses you've set in Yonder will remain exactly as they are.

Can I test the new tone before going live?
Yes! If you’d like to preview how your chatbot will sound, just let us know when submitting your request. We can apply the Special Instructions in a testing environment first.

Can I update or change the Special Instructions later?
Absolutely. Your chatbot's tone can evolve with your brand. Just contact support whenever you’d like to refine or update your instructions. 

What if I don’t have formal brand guidelines?
No problem. A short, written description of your preferred tone or persona is enough to get started.
